The modern Aerobic septic system is a hi-tech onsite waste water treatment plant. These systems use several tanks, air and water pumps, pressure and float switches and an electronic control panel to perform the task of treating domestic waste water.

 Major components and function.

 Pre-Treatment Tank.

Waste from the home is feed into the Pre-Treatment “Trash Tank.” Septic solids are retained, pretreated and gravity filtered prior to flowing to the next stage of treatment

Aerobic Treatment Tank.

Partially filtered waste water flows to the Aeration Chamber. Here
an air pump or rotor will agitate the waste

water in the Aerobic Treatment Tank. This action increases the oxygen level in the effluent and supports treatment by aerobic bacteria in the tank.

Clarification Chamber

After circulating in the Aeration Chamber the waste water migrates to the Clarification Chamber where additional settlement and clarifications occurs. This chamber is usually incorporated within the aeration tank.

Pump Tank

Following the clarification chamber the water flows into the Pump Tank. This is a holding chamber and an additional stage of clarification and sterilization. This tank contains a pump for moving treated water to the spray or drip fields. Also this tank includes group of float switches, these devices provide water level information to the electronic control panel.

Conventional Septic System

The simplest of all systems, this design has no moving parts other than gravity fed water and solids migrating through the system. Waste from the home is feed into the first septic tank where treatment begins. Tank treatment occurs in 3 ways, Settlement, Flotation and Bacterial Ingestion. The design of the tank allows only the clearest (effluent) layer of the waste water to migrate to the following tank. The second tank mostly relived of accumulated solids can further clarify the waste water before flowing to the final stage of ground treatment occurring in the drain fields.

I am a Septic Contractor myself in the State of Florida. I was curious about other septic companies, so I went on line. I was impressed by this web site but more importantly the information in it. If I were in the market for a septic company I would definitely hire them!
